Tulip Season 2025– Your Ultimate Guide

Spring in the Netherlands is one of visitors’ most favourite period and this can be largely attributed to its tulips. As the national flower takes over gardens, parks, and fields, tourists from all over the world come to witness the explosion of colors. If you're planning a trip to the Netherlands in spring 2025, here's everything you need to know about the tulip season and where to enjoy it.

 

When is Tulip Season in the Netherlands?

While you’ll spot tulips in flower shops from December through around May, the outdoor tulip season really kicks off with the arrival of spring. The best time to visit the fields is between early April and early May, with the second and third weeks of April offering the most vivid blooms. 1. Tulip gardens & experiences (March 20 – May 11)

🌸 Keukenhof Gardens (March 20-May 11)

Often referred to as the world’s most beautiful spring garden, Keukenhof is an unmissable experience. Set across 32 hectares, the park showcases over 7 million tulips, interactive displays, flower shows, art installations, and themed gardens. Explore the 15 km of walking trails, each offering a different scenic perspective. To dive deeper into Dutch tulip history, don’t miss the Tulpomania exhibition  in the Juliana Pavilion.

🌸 Bollenstreek (Flower Strip)

Just west of Lisse lies the Bollenstreek, a region world-famous for its colorful flower fields. These vast fields are cultivated mainly for tulip bulb production and are best seen from a bike or on a guided tour.
Book a cycling trip through the fields or catch a bus from Schiphol Airport to see row after row of blooming tulips stretching toward the horizon.

3. Bloemencorso – The Dutch Flower Parade (April 12, 2025)

Taking place about 40 km from Amsterdam, the Flower Parade in Bollenstreek is a spring tradition like no other. Now in its 78th edition, this lively procession features floats decked out in flowers, showcasing both Dutch heritage and floral artistry.

This year, there’s no fixed theme, giving designers and florists full creative freedom!

 

4. Amsterdam Tulip Festival – All April

Throughout April, the Amsterdam Tulip Festival brings color to parks, squares, bridges, shopping streets, and even canals — with a mission to plant one tulip for every Amsterdam resident (that’s around 800,000).

In its 11th edition, the 2025 festival celebrates Amsterdam’s 750th birthday, making it a particularly festive year.

🌸 Museumplein – including gardens near the Rijksmuseum, Moco Museum, and ‘Het Oor’

🌸 Vondelpark – floating tulip displays in the pond

For a brief three-day period in June, over 25 of Amsterdam’s hidden private gardens-situated behind historical canal houses-open their doors to the public. This is a rare chance to peek behind the facades of 17th-century mansions and explore flower-filled courtyards with rich heritage. You might even have the opportunity to step inside and admire the elegant interiors of these  canal houses.

 

6. Flower Markets

These Amsterdam markets are worth a visit:

🌸 Bloemenmarkt: The world’s only floating flower market, set on barges along the Singel canal. It's a picturesque spot for finding tulip bulbs, houseplants, and souvenirs.

🌸 Amstelveld Market: Open on Mondays, this market has a more relaxed atmosphere with an emphasis on plants and flowers. It’s ideal if you want to shop in a less crowded environment focused primarily on botanical treasures.

🌸 Farmers Market Haarlemmerplein: Open on Wednesdays, this market is excellent for picking up seasonal bouquets and fresh flowers along with other groceries.

One of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, this green oasis in the Plantage district has over 4,000 plant species, including tropical greenhouses, medicinal herbs, and exotic trees.

Located in the city’s business district, this garden is a local secret, featuring rare plant collections and peaceful walking paths.

🌸 Muiderslot Castle

Enter a fairytale at this 700-year-old castle, complete with traditional herb and vegetable gardens, a plum orchard, and volunteers happy to share stories about forgotten plants used for dye, medicine, or food. It’s also linked to the poet and playwright P.C. Hooft, who lived here in the 1600s.

🌸 Castle Museum Sypesteyn

Located in the Vecht region, this lesser-known landmark is home to an impressive private art collection and gardens ideal for a slow afternoon walk.

🌸 Theetuin Weesp

Once part of a 17th-century fortification, this tea garden offers flowering shrubs, a cozy café, and a sense of history in every corner.

🌸 The Singer Sculpture Garden (Laren)
