Christmas Walk along our hotels in Amsterdam

You can start the walk at Hotel Pontsteiger, located in the lively Houthavens. Here, you have a panoramic view of the IJ. Continue your journey through the illuminated IJdok and along Central Station to Hotel MAI, a walk of just over half an hour. Along the way, it's an absolute must to take a break and admire the impressive 20-meter-high Christmas tree on Dam Square, which stands annually in front of the Royal Palace. For last-minute Christmas shopping, you can also visit the illuminated Bijenkorf, immersing yourself fully in the Christmas spirit.

A highly recommended activity is booking a Canal Cruise. Sail through the canals of Amsterdam and experience the magic of the city from the water while enjoying a delightful hot chocolate or mulled wine. Especially the Amsterdam Light Festival is spectacular from the water, with lights on from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM every day from November 30th to January 21st.

Back at Dam Square, you can continue your walk through the Nine Streets. These picturesque streets are also beautifully decorated with Christmas lights, and here, you can indulge in Christmas shopping at numerous boutiques. At Rozengracht, you'll find Hotel Mercier. Feeling hungry by now? Make sure to stop at their Vegan Restaurant Bonboon, where you can reserve a delicious 4- or 5-course dinner or simply grab a quick bite and a drink at the bar.

Recharged? Continue your walk and walk about 20 minutes to Hotel de Hallen. Here, you can also enjoy the Remise47 restaurant, serving French/international dishes, or have a delightful hot chocolate to warm up! Moreover, the passage in de Hallen is transformed into a winter wonderland. Don't miss the Sunday Market in December, where you can shop for (vintage) furniture and art. On December 22nd and 23rd, you can also visit the 'Maker Market' Christmas edition in de Hallen, featuring exciting products, workshops, and live Christmas music. Check here for more information. A great tip is also to visit the Filmhallen, where you can enjoy a cozy Christmas movie.

From Hotel de Hallen, it's about a 15-minute walk to our beautiful Hotel van de Vijsel. During this walk, you can visit the fairytale-like Vondelkerk, where several events are held in December. Hotel JL76 and Hotel Roemer are just a stone's throw away, located in the Museum Quarter. Here, the largest Christmas market in Amsterdam is organized every year, called Christmas Village, open from December 13th to December 26th. This Christmas market has over 45 stalls with a view of the beautiful Rijksmuseum and is a must-visit hotspot if you're in Amsterdam in December!

If you still have energy after this walk to explore the east of Amsterdam, you can visit our last hotel, named Hotel de Jonker. This hotel is next to the Hortus Botanicus, which stays open for 'Hortus by Night' evenings during winter. Go on a night excursion or relax by the campfire with a blanket. Wishing you a lot of walking pleasure!
